Buccaneers Chosen All Aged Corps of the Decade

The World Drum Corps Hall of Fame has selected two drum and bugle corps which have each won five titles since the year 2000 as the junior and senior (all age) corps of the current decade.

The Buccaneers of Reading, Pennsylvania were selected in the all age category and the Cavaliers of Rosemont, Illinois were selected in the junior category. The Chicago Cavaliers were also the Hall of Fame’s junior corps of the decade from 1960 to 1969.

The Buccaneers have won the Drum Corps Associates (DCA) title for a record breaking five straight years, from 2005 to 2009, scoring a record-high 99.02 while winning this year’s title. The Buccaneers also won the first-ever DCA title in 1965 and again in 1968, 1979 and 1980. The Reading Buccaneers were organized in 1957 as a parade corps, made up of members too old for various local junior corps and veterans of World War II and the Korean War. The Bucs began field competition in 1958, winning three consecutive Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) national titles, including the last one awarded in1962.

The Cavaliers won the Drum Corps International (DCI) title in the years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2006. Since being founded by scoutmaster Don Warren in 1948 as Boy Scout Troop 111 Drum and Bugle Corps, the Cavaliers have won three American Legion (AL) national titles, 10 VFW titles, and seven DCI titles. The Cavaliers won both the AL and VFW titles in 1967. Since first performing in field shows in 1950, the corps has become known as the Green Machine, widely admired for its intricate color guard work and fast-moving drill routines.

DCA would like to congratulate both of these corps for achieving this elite distinction.
