Wildwood Kicks Off 2012 DCA Season

Where else can you relax at the Jersey shore, enjoy perfect weather, and watch seven outstanding drum corps kick off the 2012 season? The answer is the "Cabs at the Beach" show in Wildwood, N.J. this past weekend.

The Reading Buccaneers powered their way to victory tonight as classical music and the Bucs go hand in hand. Reading left no doubt at the end of the night that they intent on regaining their title.

The Hawthorne Caballeros displayed their new drums this evening and with fifty plus strong horns in support, the Cabs are more prepared at this time of the year compared to last. This years show is vintage Hawthorne with a lot of energy, power, and entertainment.

Fusion Core has made the move to Open Class this year and the fans will enjoy this gangster style show titled "The Hit" complete with dueling Dons trying to gain control of the Mob. This will be a very entertaining show to watch as the season moves on.

The long drive from North Carolina did not prevent Carolina Gold from giving a strong opening night performance on the field. Their "Out of the Shadows" program features a well balanced horn line which will keep them in contention for the Class A title in Annapolis.

Windsor Regiment is presenting "Angels in the Architecture" in 2012 and the light pastel blue uniforms on the color guard blend in very well with the corps proper of cream and black. With a complete show on the field tonight, Windsor Regiment is off to a good start this season.

The Raiders DCI Open Class corps gave a very good exhibition with a quality sounding horn line. The Raiders are well balanced in all aspects and their goal for 2012 is a top ten finish at finals.

As always, the Hawthorne Caballero Alumni Corps gave the fans an entertaining show that got the fans involved with the performance. Drum Major Jimmy Russo was at his best, while George Hyaek is starting his sixty-sixth consecutive year marching in the honor guard.

The stands at Maxwell Field were filled tonight and the 2012 DCA competitive season is under way. Next stop will be Bridgeport, Ct. next week as the top five corps from last year battle it out for the early season bragging rights. With a five dollar seating price, this is a must see show!
