Louise Mayer passed away on the evening of May 11th.
Louise, who was the wife of deceased charter World Drum Corps Hall of Fame (WDCHOF) member Henry "Lefty" Mayer, was born in 1925. She was 87 years old.
She was involved with DCA since the organization was formed. Louise was affectionately know as the "First Lady of DCA" and held a consistent presence at the DCA World Championships year after year.
In 1941, Louise joined the Joseph B. Garity American Legion Senior Fife, Drum and Bugle Corps. In 1951, when her husband ‘Lefty’ joined the Garbarina-Mazarakos Skyliners, she also became a part of the Skyliner family. In 1965, the all-male Skyliner organization awarded Louise a lifetime membership, designating her as the “First Lady of the Skyliners.”
Louise was closely associated with the operation of the Skyliners Alumni for more than a decade. She served on the board of governors of the Great Alliance of Seniors (GAS). Finally, Louise served as treasurer of the WDCHOF for ten years.
Funeral services will be at Weigand Bros. Funeral Home, 49 Hillside Ave.,Williston Park, N .Y. Visitation hours will be Monday and Tuesday, May 14 and 15, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Service of comfort Tuesday even at 8:00 p.m.. The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 15, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 300 Hillside Drive South, New Hyde Park, N.Y.
