This SDCA show will be part of the Perry 200 celebration commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the USS Niagara's victory over the British Navy in the 1813 Battle of Lake Erie (War of 1812-1815).

The event will be covered by DCA’s Fan Network and will be available as a Video on Demand (VOD) for $10.00, and of course will be free for season subscribers.

He was very active in DCA, representing the Hurricanes. Many consider the 1981 DCA Championship for his corps to be a keystone in their history and a success that he was very much a part of. Bill instructed numerous corps and high school bands and for a time was corps director of DCI’s Spirit of Atlanta as well as past co-director of Park City Pride Alumni Corps. He remained active to the end, serving on the advisory board of the Hurricanes.

Bill was dedicated to the drum corps activity and especially to his Hurricanes and DCA. We send along our condolences to his wife and many family and friends as well as the CT Hurricanes organization.

Welcome DCA I&E and Mini Corps Participants and Fans!   This will be the first of a series of planned updates for the 2013 I&E/MiniCorps Competition being held this year on Friday August 30, 2013 in Annapolis MD.   The entire Competition will be held again at the Navy-Marine Corps Stadium and it will continue to have no spectator admission fee.   There will be a parking fee should you want to park on the Stadium grounds.

Mini Corps

The BIG news is that the Mini Corps size will be increased to up to 25 participants from 21 participants.  Another change for the Mini Corps is that the registration is opening immediately!!!   Part of the reason for this change is the new process which is being introduced for the synch/mechanical/digital rights which needs to be completed and entered into a new computerized process by May 31, 2013.   Therefore, competing groups will need to accelerate the timetable for rights to arrange and perform to meet this new deadline.

Additionally, along with the increase in the Mini Corps size comes an increase in the fee to participate to $125 up from the previous $100.  This fee is still economical because it will be less than the $10 per person charge for the I&E portion of the evening.

The new registration form will state that for all of last year's competitors that will need to register and pay all fees by June 1, 2013.    All new entrants will have a similar deadline for their registration and fees.   It is good to remind all participants in this category that the previous year's competitors have the right to the first competitive slots and then all new entrants will be entered by postmark.    Another reminder, because of the noise ordinance, there could be a need to limit the number of Mini Corps to compete.   However, we could host up to 16 Mini Corps within the evenings.

Individual & Ensemble

Based off of the successful introduction of the Battery Ensemble division to last year's competition, DCA has decided to offer a Brass Choir division to the Competition in 2013.   A Brass Choir will allow groups with more than 10 brass players to enter this division.   The timing is planned to be between a 2 to 4 or 5 minute interval (though the final rule has not yet been determined).

Some other changes will be the locations of certain of the events.   We will be changing the Visual/Guard performances to be on the floor of the Stadium and the Percussion events will be moved to the area by the Score Board and parking lot.   In addition, there will be better signage to ensure that the performers and fans alike should have a better experience.

We expect the registration and rules to be available sometime between May 15 and June 15, 2013.   Please check the DCA Championship Page for the release of the I&E information.

One other change for both events will be revisions to the Scoring process.   The DCA judging administration is working with the Chair to ensure that there is consistency and fairness to the process based on the event entered.   Participants will be made aware of any changes to the process before the event in August.

DCA is pleased to announce that Heartliner Drum & Bugle Corps of Ludwigshafen, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany has confirmed their intent to participate in our 2013 DCA World Championships! They will compete in our class A division and are the first ever German corps to participate in DCA.

We look forward to welcoming Heartliner to the United States in late August!

By establishing March 4 as "National Marching Arts Day," we will spotlight and celebrate the positive effects on young people and our society from lessons learned and life skills acquired through involvement with the unique collection of activities comprising the "marching arts."

Marching Arts activities includes marching bands, drum corps, drill teams, color guards, drum lines, step teams, string bands, pipe bands, fife and drum groups, military bands, ceremonial groups, parade groups and other ensembles promoting music making, entertainment, cultural enrichment, self-confidence, teamwork, leadership training, goal-setting, responsibility, competition, good sportsmanship and fun.

In order for this petition to be considered by the Obama Administration, we need to collect 100,000 signatures by April 2, 2013. Help create this outstanding opportunity for our country to recognize the remarkable achievements of people engaging in the Marching Arts.
